(From Our Own Correspondent). Ob Friday two boys of Mr Kelliher and a son of Mr Parsons by soma moans got hold of a quantity of gunpowder and thought to have some fun. They made a hole in the ground, put some powder in and set fire to it. As that lot did-rio harm they made a larger hole, 'put in it all the powder they hnd and gat fire to it, with the result that one of KelliherY boys got his hand badly burned, the • others'were badly pitted in the face, and Parsons' boy's hair was singed. The wonder is how they escaped without liein? blinded, considering ™ the quantity of powder used. Our business people here have received notice from the Inspector of Weights and Measures to hike their weights and measures to M&sterton for examination. Great outcry about it, What we want to know is why the Inspector could not come lieie, ~m4 and the next "thing is how aro we" to njcany on business without weights and measures] We don't keep duplieale sets; are we to close all till they are passed V.y the Inspector. Our local Foothill Club held a meeting on Saturday night when a largo number of new members were enrolled.
A large number of Maoris paEsed til rough here on Thursday last. They remained en route-for'a couple of hours. About twelve ladies of the party sat down, as is their cjstom, in front of Aulin's store. One of our local celebrities took it into his head to treat them to a concert, and seated himself in the middle of the circle of ladies and sung the song of" Here's to good old whiskey, drink it down, drink it down"; ononis of ladies, /% " drink it down." ' One drunk in the lock up on Saturday night. As ho has not been hailed out he will remain there till Monday. I send you the result of the school examination,
