THE SAMOAN CATASTROPHE.
The following is a list of the merchant vessels wrecked: PeterGoddefoi,barque, 4G2 tons; Lily, schooner, 44 tons Agur, barquentine, 299 tons; Tituan, cutter, 19 tons. The vessels ashore areUpolu, schooner, G8 tons; Utuinapu, 12 tons; Yoitelle, cutter, 18 tons; Nukununs, ketch, 20 tons.. The only vessel in the harbor which escaped was a little schooner of about 5 tons, About 500 Samoans were sent by Mataafa and Suemanatafa to render assistance, The Samoans gave willing help to Germans and Americans alike. The flags at tho various Consulates, Municipal Buildings in Albert Park, the business houses and the shipping were flown half-mast yesterday in respect to the memory of those drowned in the Samoan hurricane. A fireman on board H.M.S. Rapid was tried by court-martial yesterday on a charge of having struck a pettyofficer of that vessel, and was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment fn Mount Eden Gaol,
