The Bed Star Foothall Clnh opened the season in Mnstorton on Saturday by it soralcli match, twelve a 6idc. Sides were picked by Messrs legulden and E. Polling, and after aa hour and a half's hard play, the lattor's tonm was victorious by two goals and two tries to a goal and a try. For the winners Bamber, E. Polling, Freeth and W. Eagle scored tries, two of which were converted,, while for the losers J, McKenzie BPcared a try and Buillie potted a goal, Several new players took part, in the game and gave promise of futuro progress in the football arena,
Mr A, D'Aroy, recently elected captain of tho Red Star Foothall Club, and of whom great things wore expected this season, has taken medical advice and decided not to play. Hia loss will bo Severely felt by his olub. Members and intending members of the Masterton Football Olub are reminded that the opening game of tho season will be played on tho Club's ground, Worksop Road, on Saturday, and jn view of the fixtures' already arruuged, tnero ghould be a good muster.
The match between the first fifteen of the Poneke nnd Melrose Clubs attracted a large number of people to Nowtown Park on Saturday afternoon, there beiiy about 800 persons present. The game, which was vpry fast and interesting, ended in a draw, both sides scoring a goal. Tho Wellington second fifteen deleated the Poneke second fifteen at Island Bay on Saturday by aeyep points to nil. ThePonekes had a very weak team. A match was played at Newtown Park on Saturday between the Wellington and Rival Clubs' first lifleens, the former winning by four points to nil.
