A Mauriceville Petition.
(To the Editor.) . Sm,—Will you kindly find a space in your columns for the following correspondence from the' Railway Commissioners to myself and others. lam&c, J. Vile,
Mauriceville, March 14,1889
To the Commissioners of Railways, Wellington-Gentlemen,—Theunder: signod; respectfully draw your attention to the Railway Department rooms in the Mauriceville district, There are two of .thorn, not three and a-half miles apart,- The first is not supposed to sell alcoholio drinks, but it is a matter 'of notoriety that such drinks are sold. In the second, drinking and card playing prevail on week days and on Sundays. The inhabitants of Mauriceville refuse to have a public house established in their district, but the Railway authorities, through their Refreshment Rooms are doing more mischief to the community than a licensed house would effect. The undersigned settlers respectfully ask your assistance in putting down the drunkenness and Sabbath desecration which the Railway Department has created in the district:—John Yile (sen.), James Goodgamc, Arthur Rossiter, Edmond Loir, Thor Jacobsen, T. P. Brenchloy, Christifler Erikseu, Peter Neilsen, Noils Peter Neilsen, Christian Neilsen, M, Cunstinsen, Luke Min, Lens Larsen, Hans Hansen, 1 R, P, Brodersen, Jorgen Mortensen, Harry Brodersen, Walter Jensen, Magnus Hallburg.
