Mastertou-OBaki - Jockey Clul Autumn Meeting.; ;V

President, Mr T. E. Chamberlain; Treasurer, Mr A. Elkins; Judge, . Mr A, „W. Cave; Starter, MrN. Grace; Stewards, Messrs W. B, Buick, J, lorns, Jas. Maoara, T. -, G, Mason, T, Parsons, J, Eossj'C. F.Vallanoe; Clerk of Scales, Mr ( J.Harding; Clerk of Course,MrW. lorns Mr James Muir; Handicapper, Mr N, Grace;, Seoretary, Mr R. J. Fitton,, /'

The patron saint of.lreland, must have got .on the right side of the clerk of the weather tor his anniver-,: sary this year, for more glorious weather than that experienced at the meeting of the M.OJ.C, yesterday could scarcely be conceived, and this had the effect of inducing some seven hundred people to journey to the Club's course, the majority of whom travelled by road, the number; of buggies, &c, being quite out of the ordinary. The gathering inoluded a large number of ladies, and the grand stand was consequently .patronised to a greater extent than previously, As was to be expected, there was a goodly number of the "wearers of the green" present, and good humor prevailed throughout the day, The courso was in fair order, though rather hard, and the racing first class all through. Sergeant Price was hi charge of a small force of police, but their services were never called into requisition, not even the semblance of a row occurring' to disturb the harmony of the meeting, Mr H, Lyon had .charge of the totalisator and put some £IBOO through, Mrs Corbett had a refreshment booth and also the inside luncheon room. Mr T, Thompson supplied good liquors to thirsty people in the the saddling paddock, aud Mrs Oranmer did .ditto with the outside booth, MrPapworth'B Brass Band played selections of excellent music all day long, whioh together with the usual games, helped to make things merry between the races. A very noticeable feature on this occasion was that the waits "between the events were not anything like so long and tedious as is generally the case, this being due to the energy of the secretary, Mr B, J, Fitton, and the prompitude of the starter, Mr Grace, in getting Ms horses together, and despatched them, By the way, the latter gentleman deserves much more than a passing notice for his splendid handicapping in overy event in whioh lie had to deal. The fun commenced with the Hack Hurdles, and those who care for this sort of pastime, certainly had plenty for their money, for there were no less than three " croppers." Sir Tatton started the game at the first hurdle, coming down very heavily, aud pivirtg Tommy Wiuteringhainanasty shaking, his most serious hurt being a badly bruised face," At the second obstacle Fenella followed suit, and at the third jump Lady Fergusson repeated the trick. And then what promised to be a fine finish between Shadow and Halicore was spoilt by the grey horse running off at the last hurdle, St, Patrick's Handicap produced a field of six, and Lancer came awav in the straight and landed the money for Mr Thompson amidst much cheering. Sylph was reckoned the good thing, but the distance was rather more than she could manage. Hollo; pulled up lame, aud had his name scratched off the Grand Stand Handicap. Eleven came out for the Handicap Hack Kaco, but a speedy daughter of Natator-Evergreen showed her heels to the lot in the straight, and repeated the performance twice afterwards in the catch weight and ten stone hacks, giving such reputed cracks as Mermaid, St, Helena <fc Co, a "doing." To hump lOst over a mile in lmin 50secs is not bad for a three year old, and that without being extended at the finish, The Trot proved rather a hollow affair, for Wait-a-While went away at the start and trotting finely right through won by about two hundred yards, The Hying Handicap produced the race of the day. MrTancred's filly got the best of rather a straggling start and led to 1 the straight, where they were all in a bunch, Half woy up the straight they were all' abreast and the whips out on the lot. The excitement was intense, the hackers of each yelled its name at the top of their voices, and though so near home it was impossible to tell which was going to wiu. However a few lengths from the post. Lancer got his nose in front aud did the trick by a bare length.

The Grand Stand Handioap produced another fine finish. The money was piled on heavily on Sylph, though Lancer had a good numbor of admirers. The winner lay last till nearing the straight, when she came through her horses, and secured the judge's verdict by a couple of.lengths.
