The Masterton Nightwatchman
A thinly attended meeting..was held jii the Oddfellows' Hall last evening to consider the position of the Masterton Night.watchman Fund. : Mr .Payton haying been voted fo the chair, called upon Mr .■ Sellar, who explained that for the past two and a half years Mr" Bragging had reoeived fifty'shillings a week for his services as nightwatchman. Latterly many of- those who have contributed each their sbilliug a weelt had dropped off the list and now only forty-one subscribers were on the roll,;
The Chairman' suggested that Mr Braggins might be paid at a reduced rate till the matter could be put on a better, footing. ■'.'., Mr Dougall thought that if the Borough Council struck a small rate over a special area, it could employ the nightwatchman, and the cost of his services:would be more fairly distributed than at present. Mr TooMll spoke in high terms ot the services rendered by Mr Braggins and objected to hie salary being even temporarily reduced. He moved that a committee.be appointed to canvass .for new subscribers and that tbe meeting be. adjourned for a. week to ascertain the result of this effort.. ';.. After a ! short disoussion this motion, seconded by Mr .ChenueUs, was carried, 1 and the meeting • then adjourned, ■''
