CARTERTON RAM & EWE FAIR.
The annual fair, under tho auspices --;; of the Wairarapa and East Coast • .; Pastoral • and Agricultural Sooiety, : was held on thei Society's 'Show ■•'. Grounds, Carterton, on Wednesday.;, There were about six hundred' sheep' " of all classes penned/- The weather ."'"' was all that,could be desired,' and there was a large gathering of people ' ou the ground. 'The Committee had ;;■- entered into arrangements • with Mr , ,';' A.Grigg, jun,, tohavearefreshment'!;- . booth on the ground, and this made' it far more convenient to many,' than -'; - having to go to a hotel; The sale was cpmmeuced about twelve o'clock by Mr P, H, Wood offering a lot of Komney 'Marsh Bams of Mr:A, Clifton's, which realized from 5s to , ; ,,;.'. 14s each, There were a great liuin- :'- ber of the'Bomney Marsh breed,' and 1 they did not sell so readily as they;,', have done on previous occasions, A;'lot of Lincolns,'belonging to Mosßrs fljjj' Jas. Stuckey, W. 0. Buchanan, and' "''"': E. J. Biddilbrd, fetched from £8 2s '' 6d to £4 per head. Mr E. J. Eiddiford had.some'good Lincolns, but their ago fold rather against them. Prices realized from 35s to £3 2s Gd. ' Mr D. McMaster had a grand lot of 70 2-todtn Lincolns for,which the competition was very spirited.- These were'sold singly at ''."'• prices ranging from £3 to £5 2s 6d,' Mr P. C. Threlkeld's Canterbury rams were the next to cbmo under the ; hammer, these numbered 40 2-tooth, ,' or shearlings as Mr Throlkeld prefers '"' ■ to have them called, They were. ■"..-.'' really a fine lot of sheep, and came in, •:- for* a good, share of attention; and...
