AttheinquestonErederickCorder, who committed suicide yesterday, the evidence showed that deceased was secretary to the local Lodge of Oddfellows and had made misfcakos in his books, which would not balance. He feared a bad report from the District Auditor. A verdict of temporary insanity \w returned.

WOOL AUCTIONInvercahgol, January 24. The first of a series of wool auotioua was held to-day, when the catalogues, aggregating about 8,300 bales, were submitted by various brokers to the representatives in attendanoe, The sales went off with capital spirit, tho bidding being very animated. At the unanimous request of buyers, advances were limited to farthings or eighths. TLo case Mackay r, Oram, which lias been before the Supreme Court (or about two yeais, having been heard, but not decided, by the late Mi Justice Johnston, was decided this afternoon It was an action I biought to determine the ownership of the Royal Hotel, one of the oldest licensed houses in Chnstchuicb. ~Ht Justice Ward, in giving judgment, taid that, from the evidence, Mr Mackay (the onginal owner) must be taken to have had full knowledge of tin transactions of the trustees in connection with the estate-. The Oiamsgave a veiy fair price when they gave £3OOO for the house. The money wend to pay off the mortgage 1 and the plaintiff did not think of impuning the validity of the sale. Now the plaintiff, who had received the money, asked that the sale Should be set aside, and made no offer to irfund any of the money. He had never heard so dishonest a contention set up in any Court he had had the honor of pie siding o\w during his 27 years' on the Bench, As the defendants had offered to give the piopeity back on thecost of the purchase, and:the.'ainount of cash; expended by them : ,on ; the property): the; decree Would be that if tim amount, of £4500 be paid to Orams or their representa ; : tives within.two months from this date, then the Grains shall execute a reconveyance;: and, in addition to that, the plaintiffs, of course, will have to pay all costs incurred subsequent to the offer to this effect made by : the defendants,- otherwise the action would'be dismissed, with costs on the highest scale. ■■'•'; -
