Cr Hessey hoped the Council would not expend any money on the work until they took the complete'job over from Mr Renall and the Committee. The Mayor said he thought it only fair the Council should clew out the water channels.. Cr Fitton said, independent of the water soheme,. the Council would have to clean'out the water tables, and he should support the motion of the Mayor, Cr Heron said it was more than a question of. cleaning out -channels: It meant removing eighteen inches of soil, and was another." try on.". There was a prinoiple involved however, which the present-motion affected, and' that being so he would subsoribe 2s 6d to pay for the man's labor, and no noubt the others would makeup the rest, The water table was a ditch at the present time, and if the Council expended money on it: they would be responsible for it. The Mayor then, by permission, withdrew his motion and substituted a motion that the Council thank the three Councillors for subscribing the money for. clearing out the ohannel. This he deolared carried and the meeting adjourned.
