EKETAHUNA
(From Our Owii Correspondent,)Everything was rather quiet this last week. : No fights 1 No drunks I was going to say, but I saw one man wheeled home in a wheelbarrow on Sunday morning, that is the only thing-1 have-to record during the week in Ekotahuna,,. The cricket matches did not come off.
, Tuesday 22, went to Pahiatua and spent' a very comfortable day at the sports. The several events wore well contested. There were quite 800 people on'the ground,: The first event, boy's race, 100 yds, Gardner 1, Harvey 2, One hundred, yards Handicap, Polling scratch, 1, Newth 3yds 2"; 440 yds handicap, Ejbn 1, Keats 2; Ruaning high jump, JRiohardson and a Maori tied at 6ft. four competed. Handioap '. hurdle race, 440 yds, Pelling, 1, Eichardson 2; Horse jumping race, for horses owned by residents. of Woodville, Eketahuua,' and Pahiatua, was won by a Pahiatua horse owned by Mr Rash, hnrdles.'lft 4in.high; -Wrestling- match, "''Oumberlaud .style.' Tliero were several boy's, races and the sports were enlivened by'the Pahiatua Brass Band. The only drunk I saw on the ground was one speoler, who wanted to fight his'chum.; It appears they, could not agree about the. division of the" money they swindled the pubjio out of, That was the only disturbance on the ground. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. A ball was given in the evening at Pahiatua, the most of the people from here remained for it. I, did not stop, so I. oannot toll you anything aboutit.
