This meeting was hold on the Moroa course yesterday (Tuesday), and from every point of view must be considered a success. Though the attendance was not sogreat (probably • numbering 500 all told) yot the privileges were of so numerous a character and so well patronised as to an impetus to the day's sport lias been ladling on former ■ftus. The innovation, too, of ladies to the courso free of . WbSrge was on this occasion taken full advantage of by great numbers of the fair sex from all parts of the Valley, and their presence tended, as usual, to enhance the pleasure of the day's sport,, The weather was all that could be desired, a nice cool easterly wind blowing right across tlio conrs'e ■which prevented the heat from being felt in such ail extreme degree by those present, The course was in capital order, though very rough in places, but we ars glad to record that not a single accidont occurred during the day to mar the enjoyment of the race-goers. The Greytown Band played selections on tho lawn at intervals, and tbeir really excellent music was thoroughly enjoyed by all present, No disturbance of any kind whitijsr, occurred, and though, as usuK squad of police were present, all tney had to do was to enjoy themselves, indeed we only saw one drunk on the course throughout the whole day. ■ Mrs Corbett provided a substantial repast for the visitors to the grand' stand who kept her busy during the greater part of the Sayan attending'o their wants. Host ison who had the grand stand publican's booth did a roaring trade as did everyone whoheld a privilege at this meeting. Outside the enclosure Host Toohill was also kept well employed in supplying the spirituous wants of his customers, while Mr Grigg was just as successful with her ediblewares. Never beforo have we seen a greater or more varied collection of men who turn " the quick and honest penny" on a Wairarapa course. The place was literally alive With them, cheap jacks, shootinggallery runners, men with monkeys, Ik, all raising their voices to the . highest pitch to outdo their fellows, . kept things very lively during the whole of the day. They all seemed to lmwith a good amount of success "swept one forlorn young man who tried to sell the crowd three half sovereigns for one, but the birds lo be caught with this kind of chaff did not exist in this locality, and ho was fain to join his fellows in some more lucrative employment, Mr T. A. Lyons was present with his sweep board, and massed a good many halfcrowns through jdui'ing the diiy. Great credit is due to- the Stewards for the punctuality with which the raws were started, every event being go? away according to the time stated in the book. This was generally appreciated as being au agreeable change in this respect to the generality of race meetings. The racing was good throughout, Borne of the finishes being remarkably close, The totalisator was in charge of Mr Webster, and good dividends were obtained in the majority of theevents, MrMtoara's Minnie Palmer was BcraraM early in tho day for all engagements."
