Miss Stoddart (Christohnrch School of Art), drawing from life; John Kilgour (DunedinSchool of Art), drawing from the antique. Eegret is expressed at the loss sustainod by the death of John Irvine, A.8.5.A., and John Gully, who stood so prominently among the landscape painters of the Colony. The Council urges the members to execute works for exhibition in Dunedin in December, as it will represent the best efforts and increase the_ standard of excellence. The exhibition this year was, on the whole, very successful, aud £127 was - oxpended in purchasing the pictures exhibited,

Dunedik, January 14. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club the report slated that the fears as to the shrinkage of the revenue, have not been realised to. any extent, There has been a substantial profit on each of the six meetings held. Mr G. MoLean in his speech hinted that other arrangements would have to be made in connection with the course, whioh had been acquired under very different circumstances to other courses which were available; but after the money spent on it, it would be more desirable if they could remain where they were. It has been under consideration to get up a big meeting for the Ist November, at the opening of the, Exhibition, with stakes rich enough to attract people and entries from the whole Colony, and probably from Australia.
