ENGINEER'S REPORT. • , I have the honor Jo submit tho following report for tbo past month on the works in progress in the County MASiERToif Biding,—Masterton to Waimata Eoad—Contract No. 32, (river works at Te Ore Ore), I have received intimation from the contractor for this work, that he is prepared to resume operations when called upon by the Council to do so, and would recommend that they be put in hand at the earliest opportunity, subject, if necessary, to the modifications recommended in my report of the 12th June last. Under favorable circumstances this should allow sufficient time for the work to become set before it is subjected to any severe test, from the early winter floods, : Contract No 34.—Owing to the interruption of the holidays, progress bn this work has been.more than usually slow during the month, .Preparations are now proceeding for starting the heaviest etnbankmsnt which work* will occupy, at least, two months in its performance. The balance of the .undertaking is still in a backward state, and it is therefore improbable that, the contract will be finished boforo the end of the summer.

• -Contract No 35,—0 h this contraot metal has been laid throughout and tho formation roughly finished, Such necessary details as are required to properly complete.the work can be done in the course of a week, from which time the term of maintenance by the contractor will date.

Contract No 37.—T01l house contract at Taueru was, duly completed on the 18th of last month since which date it lias been in'the occupation of the permanent roadman.. Tho work was in all, completed; in.a satisfactory manner, It was found necessary during thp erection of the building to make additions to the contract amounting to Ji 3s, Gd for necessary work unprovided for in the' original proposal, I therefore took upon myself to have these performed while the contractor was upon the. ground, i -■•'. •'.•':
