Sudden Death,' Blenheim, December 28. A very sudden death occurred last night, Mr Alexander Livingstone, Chief Posfcmaster,Jiad left his office shortly after,five o'clock, and had been out for a walk to a friend's house. On returning he got as far as the gate of his private residence; when he dropped down, assistance was procured, and he was taken inside, but he died in twenty minutes. He was Chief Postmaster hero for the past two and a half years, At one timo he held a commission in the Frewm army, and had seen active Bervicein Algeria, lie was a native of Paris, his father holding a high office in the Frenoh Army. Deceased was one of the best.inustoians in the colony, and was a prominent member of the Wairaii Lodge of Freemasons, He had been in ill-health fora.considerable time past, being treated for a complication of diseases, No inquest is deemed necessary. The funeraliakes place at 7 o'clock tomorrow .morning with Masonic honours.

The Royalist and Calliope are expected shortly. ■ It is reported that Constable Moloney, of Makehu, committed suioide at that settlement, He had been aufferiug from melancholia, and being mjssed a weok ago, search was made, which resulted in finding his body in the swamp, with a revolver beside it. A petition is being signed to the Mayor and Council, praying for a modification in the under which the recent Salvationists conviotion was obtained. The petitioners allege it is very undesirable the liberty of the people should be left entirely at the meroy of the police, and pray that the complaints may be laid by a Council official. ,
