MASONIC.
_ The annual installation and investiture of officers' of the Masterton Masonic Lodge 1430 E.G. took place , at the Masonic Hall, Bannisterstreet on Monday night, at 0 o'clock p.m. The District Grand Chaplain Bro. W.' E. Paige was installing Master, Bro '/ : R. Brown, P.M., occupied S.W.'s = chair, Bro W. Sellar P.M., J.W.'s chair, Bro D. Mcintosh, P.M., Senior. Deacon, Bro B. Wickerßon, ; P.Mj, •£'•>/ Junior Deacon, Bro C; Gayfer, Worshipful Master of the Carterton Lodge '' Inner Guard. Bro ,Wm. Grundy was duly installed Worship"* f«l Master for the ensuing twelve months. The impressive ceremony was performed with its usual solemnity in the presence of the full Lodge; and officers arid visitors from, St..' Marks, Carterton, Thistle, Masterton ' and other Lodges, and the important . 1 duties were effectively discharged by the Installing Master, the Bey WV E. Paige, this beingtho fifth occasion on which ho lias acted in a like capacity.. ;■, v. .• ,
The following officers were afterwards invostedS.W., Bro D. Guild, J.W., Bro F. T. Redman, ; 8.D., Bro Goo. Johndfou, J.D., Bro T. Wagg, Treasurer, Bro W. Sellar, P.M., Seo., Bro U. S. W.Dalryaiplo 1.6., Bro 0. Wagland, Tyler,'Bro W. T. Kobius. The musical part of the ceremony was ably conducted by Bro Keisenberg. Sevoral bymnsincidental' theretoiwero well rendorcd. - The- Lodge hying been close-in ' due form the brethren sat down to a : ■ collation, Bro Grundy pied the ohair and was ably supported#^ right and left by postmasters of the the order, Bro D. Guild S.W., occupied the vice chair. '■ After full justice had been dono to the good things provided by Mrs Corbett, who catered, thoLoyal and * Masonic .toasts were given and heartily responded to. These wore followed by the toast of" The Press." proposed by Bro. Guild, who, m a ueat and appropriate speech, alluded . . to the educational power of the fourth, estate; the influence they had for good, so long as they maintained a high moral standard. . Ho ~ concluded by. again thanking them for the unanimity with which thoy : had placed him in the Chair. Tlio toast of the ladies was pro- "■ posed by Bro Kcisonberg in a humor- : oqs spceoli, and replied to hy Bros, Wagland and Johnston, the latter ■ remarking that although tlio ladies could not bacoino Masons, thoy could become Masons' wives, which was tho next best degree.
Soiigs were contributed by Bros. Ha3CottL Wiok'son, Mooro, SoUnr, Gayfor.'Hogg, Dalrymple.and others, Bro.Keisenberg ably accompanying tho singers on the organ, -After a (jpißant evening and singing Auld Lang Syne, the assembly dispersed.
