AVON is a bay horse with black points, and stands 17 hands high, with plenty of bone anil lmir. Ho is come of n great family, Bis dam was Bold at 800 guineas when good marcs woro sold at a fourth of that prico. She is out of a blackleg maro—ono of a family of four, out of tho Bamo dim, and tho quartette, by ltenfrow Jock, were the four best horses ever bred in tho Oamaru district.
AVON, by Avon Chief, (100 N.Z.S.B). bred by W, Boag, Esq., Fcndnltoii, near Christcliurch, out of his famous prize niaro Grace Darlini; (30) by Prince of KiUbridts imported (602). Graco Dm'. ling, by Princo Charlie, imported (4 and G'26). Graco Darling was the best niaro that ever stood in New Zealand. She lifts been first and Champion at Christchurch many times, beating the great Maggio Craig, Champion of Scotland. Sho was tirst in Dunedin in her class and champion of the yard. In fact her career is unprecedented. AVOWS dam Gipsy, by Renfrew Jock (135) imported from Victoria; g sire Renfrew imported from Scotland; g dam Joss by Blackleg imported from Scotland. Renfrew Jock's dam Rose, by Crowden Lad, a famous Clydesdalo imported from Scotland by the lato David Nesbitt Keiifrew Jock was a most successful show horse. Before leaving Victoria ho tookmany firsts, and ho was first fur three years in succession in Oaniaru, 'l'imaru, and Dunedin, and Champion of the yard ijb well. From this history breeders will recognise that they havo in Avon not only a homo of good parts, but an Entire of good lineage, ut mattor altogether different to a good-looking homo. The great point in horso-broeding is to liavo n sire connected with good families of undoubted character. In the one caso the stock will bo uniformly good, while in the other caso individuals may surpass, but the genoral character of the stock will bo inferior and disappointing. Nothing is more grievous to a breeder than to see weeds spring from a goodlooking Biro. Terms L 5, payable by P.N. at first Ecrvico, duo January 1,1888. Groomago fco /is.
