The result of the meeting held on Monday evening to consider the recent increase of insurance rates was satisfactory. A small committee, consisting of leading business men iu the • community was elected to investigate the causes which have brought about the exces. sive scale of-premiums now enforced, and to bring forward such recoininundations as they may deem necessary to mitigate the ■ evil from which the public in Masterlon are now suffering. The task of the Committee will not be a light one as the Insurance Companies of tho Wellington Provincial District occupy a very strong position, and constitute in fact, a confederacy which can dictate its .o;,yi} terms to insurers.
