SAD FATALITY.

Found Dead.

At about 5 o'clock last night two boys-Charles Broadbent'ahdThomas Stone,—reported to the police that they had: found a man lying dead on the banks of the Waipoua river close to Masterton, Constable Cooper at once iwent.with the boys to the place and he found, the deceased lying on his face close to the edge'of the river bank, a track to ; Mr Jaoques' house also passes close to where deceased was lying. On examinrng ;the:de'-' ceased' Cbnstable.Coqper 'fourid'that. he, had been dead some tinie, being, turned quite blue in the face. The body was,-, not cold, but .the limbs were getting: stiff. 'The Constable recognised the body as that of Thomas Gwynrie," son, of Mr ty 'G.wyhne, assistant at the Masterton Hospital, j Deceased, from the position of- the body, appeared to, have laid or: fallen on his'' face and: died without a struggle. Both his'hands were under his breast, the left one-open and relaxed, and theright tightly olonohed aud in it. some grass. The Constable then had the body removed, to the Masterton Hospital and examined it afteritwasundressed.Hefound on the left shoulder, and upper part of the left arm a large abrasion of the skin, .evidently caused by,comjngni violent contact with some bard 'aubstance. There were no other'marks, oh' the body. Deceased was sixteen years of age, and was'in tho employ of Mr Ernest Smith, who resides close to the Hospital. Mr Smith, left home yesterday at about soveu o'clock, leaving the boy all right. His father' and mother also saw deceased shortly after raven yesterday morning,. when he Btated ho was going down to the Waipoua River that day to get some flax-stiqks.fqr. tho purpose of sticking somo peas. That was the last they saw of him alive, and he. then appeared in perfect health. ; ';

Deceased was; a. member of the Masterton; Juvenile Foresters, -'and his funeral,: which takes'place, on Sunday afternoon, will be attended by. members of that Court, and also of the Court Loyal Enterprise. An inquiry iiito the cause of his death is being held before' - Mr S; Von Stumer,' District Coroner.. .'Dr. Hosking made a post mortem examination of the deceased, which showed that'death resulted from dislocation ot the neck oaused by a fall from a horse whioh deceased it was surmised was riding without saddle or bridle.
