Butchers' Picnic.
Wellington, Wednesday. ' The. butchers' picnic to-day was one of the most successful they have ever had. The' weather was delightful and the procession of horses and order carts nearly a mile in length and all gaily decorated. Tho whole of Cobb k Co's plant was engaged in tho procession tailing out families.
A Gun Accident,
Auckland, November 20.
George Allen, a youth of 17 years, has been treated at tho hospital for injuries sustained while out shooting with some'companions in'tho neighborhood of Onehunga yesterday. One of his comrades accidentally discharged m Allen's face a rifle loaded with a blank cartridge, His face and eyes were injured, but not seri. oiisly.

,: Mr Haunay, the Assistant Manager of the New : Zealand Railways, met a deputation, of dairy factory representatives, who urged a reduction of the tariff on dairy produce, stating that, if done, tho railway would get the trade instead of the coastal, steamers, as at present. It was pointed out that the Department now carried goods from Port Chalmers to Inveiv cargill for 17s Gd por ion,: and the deputation thought there was no reason why tho same rate did not rule both ways. Mr Hiinnay, who came down in fulfilment of a promise made by the Premier, will report to the Cabinet on the subject. A Liberal Donation; Wellington, Wedxes.day. Tho Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board are abbut to consider tho advisablencss of inviting those requiring labor to apply to the Behoving Officer in order that the Board may obtain work for,the unemployed who are in their charge. In a discussion on the subject last night, an opipion was expressed by some members that charitablo aid was the curse of the country, and that tlje people were being educated to a system of pauperism,
