Public Examination.

In tho Bankruptcy Court before Judge Richmond, this morning Brown and Eodgers, debtors, Masterton, came up for public examination. Mr Jollicoo, for creditors, raised the point as to tho proper founding of the jurisdiction. Brown, one member of the firm, had signed a petition for adjudication in the firms name, the other members of the firm not bavins; subscribed their signature's, It was useless for the creditors to go on, as the proceedings wero irregular and might be upset at a later stage, Mr Skcrrett (instructed by Mr Pownall) for the bankrupts, submitted there was an effectual bankruptcy notwithstanding the irregularity. If Iho firm was not bankrupt, then none of the' members of it were bankrupt.

Mr Jellicoo said they must have the jurisdiction properly founded, though it was rather late in the day, as the Assignee had already realised every asset of tho firm.

Judge Richmond said he could uot go on with the case until the question of jurisdiction was niado clear, Tho case was ordered to stand over. The Midland Railway. WKr<MNaTON, Monday. Tho Government have reoeived intimation that the Midland Railway Company are only waiting the arrival of the contract which was signed onSeptember 25, to oomplete arrangements for securing the necessary capital when the works will be immediately pushed on.
