Severe Drought in New South Wales- .

Special telegraphic reports from the correspondents of the Sydney, Morning Herald in regard; to the agricultural and pastoral outlook allow that with the exception of a, fow districts, either on the coast or not very far removed from;it,, the country is suffering from "drought' almost unequalled in severity. Therein which fell early in the month did a little good, hut it was far short t of what was required, In many places the grass has disappeared or. has lost its nutrition, and all sMt are consequently in very poor 'cofljp tion. In tlio agricultural, districts; the crops are a partial or total failure.!' A good fall of rain during the fortnight or so. would saveonany of the crops and put a new face on. the prospects of the pastoral districts. In some districkeverytliiug'depends on a timely downpour in others;; .the. rain when it comes i will : ; comelitoo late to prevent disaster so far as. tha western district is concerned.'"" "It appears that the effects of the drought are not yet nearly so much felt within a radius 100 miles from -Bdurke as further south; Outside this area, however, the state of the country is deplorable yand the immense losses of stock already sustained are beiug' daily added to. The reports frbift Biverina stations arc almost equally deplorable. One fall of rain, two or three weeks back staved off disastor for a time in a few favored localities, . but in nearly all; the 1 districts' :tho crops have eila|fe. failed or are. indeed: very baokward and. promise much less tlian the average yield, . On the northern tablo lands the wheat-crops are tt complete failure. - Tho;farmor's prospects generally are very poor indeed. The grass, is growing after the recent rains, but it has come too late to save large numbers of stock. About the Orange and surrounding district the wheat crops look well considering the circumstances, but tho harvest will be Into, ■ and except ina few cases below tho avorage, The pastoralists require much more rain to bring feed on and secure thorn for the summer. In the Wagga Wagga district, the prospect for both agriculturalists and pastoralists are very gloomy. The grass is very indifferent, and the crops not likely to bo anything like up to the avorage; Most of the other southern statiom' make a similar report, but in' SoW ; places the feed is in fair condition. Along tho coast districts, north and south of Sydney, tho pastures are fairly good, but much more is needed to satisfy both farmers, and graziers. Slight showers fell on some portions of the coast districts on October 18th, hut they did not cxtond any distance inland, and -the weather is now generally fine and clear, except in the south, where a few scattered clouds aro hanging about. A Willcania telegram states that tho scrub and bushes, which are tho mainstay of stock in time of drought there, hayei sufferod severely through tho dowst--ations of rabbits, who tako the.' bark off tho trees for f00d...
