URITI ROAD.
(Tho following .letter has- been forwarded to the Masterton Eoad Board, and wo have been requested to publish., it for general information,—EdW.D.) Eparaima, 31st October, 1888.—The Chairman and members.;'Masterton : lload Board.—Gentlemen,—As the Warden of those special ratepayers who have paid .through ..you^Board , the sum of. £368 directly and in* 1 directly to the Messra Meredith for the Uriti road (about two miles in length),'l deem it my duty to inform, yon that at a meeting of tho Wliareaoia lload Board held on the 26th Optober, 1688, MrR. R. Meredith stated that your Board had misapplied portions of tho monoy raissd.by,us .for .the purchase of the said- road, anft that until the conditions for which ha,i had stipulated were fulfilled ho dis-,J tincily declined to sign a conveyance of the road. (1) Did Mr J. King, Engineer, instrnoted by your Board, lay off the Uriti - road 'in ; or about, 18751 (2) Did the owners of the land so taken then object? (3) Did Mr Edwin Meredith, jr, agree to open tho road for publicise in consideration of the sum of' £ 133 paid him for fencing - in 1881, about six years after the/ Road was 'laid'off and used by tlio public, !, (4j; Did Mr E, R. Meredith, in September', 5 i 1885, agree; to 'i again sell the same road for £93 in cash and £144 to bo expended in fencing, gates, bridging etc. (5) Were; these two: sums paid ,and. expended by. your Board in .te^ins; of iyour' agreeiriont with Mr R. R, Meredith," arid in full satisfaction of all oiaims? (6) Did Mr Edwin Meredith, senior) represent 'us; -the special ratepayers—as on your" Board at the time this second Bale of the road was effected 1 (?) Is any part of the property of the Messrs Meredith included within tho special rating area for securing the interest upon these loansM shall be glad of answers to these questions at your early convenience.. lam, etc.,: •' Gt.Mooke.
