■ - (From Our Own Correspondent) •Dining tho past week the Town Hallfltoiearly every night been ooenpieffr amusements of various kinds. During the 'same period a young married woman (native) residing in »town, died of an inflamatory lage of the bowels. In reference to this and other deaths amongst the natives recently, the calamity could have been averted had the Maoris . obtained and faithfully carried out the medical advice and assistance available, but as a rule a doctor if not sought until the patient is beyond remedy, and then the natives strange fatalistio ideas Beom to bo "ob, bo's suro to die," and death is the result. Last Saturday at the recreation ' ground the second cricket match of the' season waa played by the local team. Mr RobeiPNgaluro is going to have a largo "dwelling liouso built noar the Black Bridge by a Wellington builder, (Mr H. Silk),. The shop lately "occupied by Mr W. King, tailor, was oponcd on Saturday as a cash .grocery store by Mr H. Cook has moved into his new and handsome shop nearly opposite the Sauk. Tho large store recently Maxton and Wobsters' auction mart, is being fitted up and painted for occu. pation as a drapery eatablismont. being, in fact, a branch store of a largo Wellington firm. A couplo of Groytown tradesman were" yarning" star where the now buildings are being built. Said one (looking at tho work going on) " 1 say competition is tbo life of trade."" Right you aro"said the other, "but I think trade would be a jolly sight more lively if another bank was going up." A painful accident happened to Miss Walker at Kahutara (Lower Valley) last Thursday.. While out riding she was thrown from her horse.
