False Representations. Auckland, October 1, Robert Stevenson, a well knowu Auckland tradesman was committed for trial to-day on a charge of making a false representation. Stevenson beoamea bankrupt on the 2Srd of | August, and on tbe 19tli of July be attended an auction sale beld by A. Buckland and Son, He was" then informed that the auctioneer would not take bis bid unless be paid an account of M 5 5s owing to that firm. He thereupon gave a cheque for the amount. Two steers were purchased by him at the sale, but his cheque was subsequently dishonored by the bank.
SUPREME COURT. Wellington, Tuesday. No bill was found against John Applin, oharged with making a false declaration. Chritchuroh, Ootober 1. Eustace Frank Allen; for forgery and"uttering, was sentenced, to 12 months' imprisonment; Andrew Black and Hicbord Chamberlain, robbery with violence, three years' penal servitude; James Cotter, rob. bery with violence one yoara imprisonment, No bill was found against Jane Norris, oharged with child murder. A charge of horsestealing against John Bowie, was withdrawn. Potem, October!. John Cottrell, for malicious injury to properly, -was,sentenced to twelve months; Alfred Harley pleadedguilty to forgery, and sentence was deferred; Thomas Rabbit, for sheep-stealing, was acquitted. Auckland, October 1. At tho Supremo Court, to-day, A, McLeod sued the Auckland Tramway Company for £2OO damages for injuries received by falling from a tram oar. and breaking bis leg on 28rd July last. For the, defence it was contended that the plaintiff stepped from tbe car whilst it was in motion, A verdict was returned for the defendants, with costs on the lowest scale.
