Appointment of Sheep Inspector.
We are informed that the appointment of Mr Bayley as sheep inspector for Auckland is a very unpopular oue with the sheep owners here, and it is highly probable that some concerted action will be taken to give expression to the dissatisfaction which it,has caused. In dealing with Mr Bayley in his official capacity, Mr J. D, Lance, M.H.ti, for Cheviot, a very'large sheep owner, most emphatically declared in tho House that Mr Bayley had, whilst head of tho sheop department, showed a wonderful incapacity to grapple successfully with the scab question on the West Coast of the South Island, aud tho AuckUnd sheepown ers coutend tbnjiit is another case of foisting upon Auckland an officer not acceptable in the South. Inspeakiugof Mr pruunnond,- the officer in charge of .the Auckland district, ; Messrs Beetliam and'Buchanan,/ hi /the House of Eepresentatives, paid Mm a high tribute of great'efficiency, and regretted; his removal from tho Wairarapa district, which is represented in the House by these two gentlemen, aud there is a feeling here that they have exerted 'themself to seoure Mr Drummond's return to that place. Since ho has been in Auckland .lie has given great satisfaction, and it is said that it can neither be in the sheep interest- or : that of retrenchment to remove him, and send in his place, ail officer at a higher salary, and one who may not be wanted in the south, At tho urgent request of some of our largest sheep-owners, a telegram has been sent by a' member supporting tho Government to ; the Minister of Lands, indicating the strong feeling which; exists, on the matter.—Auckland Weekly News.
