The effect of so wide a construction of the act would bo to tax every foreign Company holding assets in New Zealand. Tho Court held that by the articles of tho Association it was clear that the Company existed for the purpose of tailing over and cultivating land in New Zealand, and therefore ruled it carried on busiuess within the meaning of the Stamp Act 1882, and was liable to pay the maximum annual license fee of £2OO.
