London, September 21, Letters L received from the Congo predicted the murder of Major Barttolot. The latter is alleged to have treated the men under him in au overhearing manner, 'Although there was.no necessity to apprehend short supplies, the Major placed' the party on starvation allowance, while the officials were abundantly provided with food,; even to waste.' At the time the letters were despatched the murder was expected daily, Major Barttelot is also accused of cruelty to the men; whom lie illused on the slightest provocation.- "'"' "'"'""'-' '""''.

Stevenson, Poverty Bay. Preserved Beef, second awards, Gear Meat Company, Wellington, and R, ,; Tillow, No awards have beon mado to New Zealand for hams, bacon or butter. Another Dairy Show will be held about Novornber.
