From the Couuty Engineer! applying for permission to takogravel from the Board's gravel pit at To Ore-Granted. From MrE. Moredith, Chairman of JVhareamaßoad Board, staling that I Mr' Elder and himself would bo prepared to meet the Board any date • ; aftor 20th Septembor for the' purpose of adjusting accounts between tho - Whareams and Masterton Road Boards Tho Clerk was instructed to send a reply to Mr Moredith,'asking for nn oxplanation as tho accounts alluded to were adjusted fully eighteen months
' ago. From Messrs 0. H. Welch, 1!. A Cameron, and W. E. Welch, asking tho Board to do something to improve tho road leading to their properties on tho Upper Opaki. The Clerk was requested to write and point out to the petitioners that the road to which they refer hid not yet been legalised but that the Chief Surveyor, Mr Marchant, had promised to get this done without delay. When the road had . been legalised tho Board would take action to havotlpirsuggcstionscarrifv.l ou't, The Overseer was requested lo inspect and report on Messrs H. Jensen, and Frethey's application re repairs to the roads leading to thoir properties.

Tho Board instructed the Overseer to layoff a line of road through the Nativo land loading to Mr Cade's property on the Bungitumau. • - • The Chairman and Crs Stuckey and Dagg were chosen a Committee to use every possible means to got all necessary roads legalised, Mr Donovan wrote, and also waited £ on tho Board, with reference |to tho leading through Mr Hossoy's property, and informing them tbat ho ■ was willing to pay half the amount required to fence that portion of the road, if the Board would legalise it and tho other portion from Hossoy's to whero it touches MoKay'B property; or, if the Board were not prepared to legalise it, ho asked if thoy would protect him from tho neighbors' interference with the road, Tho Board decidod to adhoro to its previous resolution passed on the 19th { May last," That provided Mr Donovan consents to a deviation of the old road as suggested by the Masterton Boad Board, through the Native ground, and agrees to pay under' The Loans to Local Bodies Act, 188G,' tho interest on the sum of £4O, the Masterton Road Board will construct and metal 10 chains, more or less, ot said deviation, and also erect a fence on sides of such section of road as runs through Mr Hessey's property, the interest on tho loan of £SO to be , levied on the property of Messrs '.Donovan and. Elkins, th<j former to 'pay on £4O and tho latter on £lO of said loan, and that the Clerk send copy/of this resolution toMrDonovan," Mr Easmussen, in company with ■ Mr MoLeod, again waited on the Board in reference to a right-of-way to his property on the Opaki, Mr McLeod intimated ho would be willing to grant Mr ■ Rasmussen a private right-of-way through his property provided the Board arranged for a similar road line to be laid off for him (Mr McLeod) through Mr Jacob Josephs property, Tho Board promised to make inquiries, and if possible to grant tho request. Mr Pownall, on behalf of Mr Donovan, waited on the Board with reference to bis grievance re tho road through Mr Hessey's property k and was informed of the dep cisjon already come to ovor this k:. matter. Mr.. Pownall said ho regretted this as he would liked to bavo been present, when possibly a more • amicable arrangement could have boen come to. The Resident Magistrals had adjourned the action Hessoy v : Donovan recently brought before tho Court in hopes that tho parties would be ablo to settle the matter in the meantime, but as the Board bad come to'its present decision thoy would ho compelled to settle tho dispute in the law courts. The general opinion outBido was freely expressed that bis client had sulked serious injustice at tho hands of previous members of tho Board,

I would recommend in this case also that a' '.'. cheque be passod and retainqd as in the Upper Plain contract.
