' ' , TIMBER DISPUTE, The Clerk to the Castlopoint Road Board wroto, stating the Board refused to admit its liability for the sum of £ls, the value of titnbel used in the Timii bridge, Or Maunsell explained that at the time the repairs ;to the bridge Veto dono a quantity of timber that bad beon sent up for culvert purposes used temporarily as an approaoh to the bridge where the deviation had scoured away, was taken to do the bridge repairs by the Board. The Council had not sanctioned the use of that timber, and now demanded payment for jit. The work ( however, was. done on a County road, and was urgent at the time, and, he under the circumstances, the matter need - net be pushed,-They were 'willing to pay for the 500 feet of new timber'used. i .'. : f: .' \ \"? '' The Chairman said the North Wairnrapa Benevolent Sociaty was now defunct: and it was necessary for tbe local bodies to make some arrangements to cany on the relief of tbe poor in their district. ■ ■' ■ '•.'■ The Mayor asked if the Benevolent Society had actually resigned or only threatened. ; The Chairman said they had, but tbe Chairman agreed to carry on the work of relief in conjunction with the • Secretary until the local bodies made arrangements for taking over the affairs of the Society, .
