"MEEK AND MILD."
It is to be hoped (says Truth)that the Piince of Wales will not too'fre- , i?m quently attend city cuurohes. ;It "'; f$ would seem that His Royal Highness ,*- condescended to worship on a recent *■?> Trinity Sunday in the ohurch of St, v Uotolph Without; Bishop3gate Tho * . paiish authorities expended £220 lftfr - 9d on the occasion. Among the \\%W aro "Piayer and hjmn books to oidoi, renovating Prayei-book and Bible, £ls.' "Fourbook markers, £8 Bs." Violet cloth frontal, embroideiedandfiingod, Sd 19s Gd," '. " Ribbons and silk for ditto, £1 Os , lid." "Cupboardforditto,£4l6s." At tho last meeting of the Vestry, a motion was made to disallow these accounts, but it was not carried, as „ ~ the Vicar stated that this was an i „ " unpiofitable scandal." It seems, however, to me, that this scandal was an oxgcedtngly profitable ono to sombody. There are a couplo of items in this little bill which suggest ques- '' , tions of a different character. These are:—" Paid policeman for man into custody, 103; pi% ' man for tolling woman info custody, 2s Cd." I should bite to ask tlio police authorities upon llns:-(l) ■Docs not a City policeman arrest any o'ulpnt until he is paid for it ? or (2) Willheauest anyone, provided s is paid for it ? and (8), Why cost half-a-orown in the caso of a* woman, and half-'a-sovereign in the case of a man? The last question is by fai the most serious of the three., In this age of woman's'rights it does seem to me a monstrous thing that in tho City of London four women can be mil in at the same price as one man.
