Admiral Sir W, Hunt Grubbo has recently made soino interesting experiments at tho Cape of Good Hope on tho sending of signals by means of the lays of an arc lamp reflected by the clouds. The luminous fascicle from a 100,000 candle arc lamp was directed against the clouds by means of a roflector, and interrupted according to tho heliographic code. Tho dispatch could bo re?d with ease at Capetown. Other experiments wei'o mado by n vessel of the navy sent out to sea, and the signals could be read from a distance of fifty miles. This method affords a possibility of sending signals at sea, and might prove useful in favourable weathor for ships in danger.
