Alleged Incendiarism.
Invekcargill, September 5., At Goro to-day Alexander McKenzie and John MePhail were brought up on iiiformation charging them with setting,fire to tho," store of Craig, MoKenzio, and: Co,, of which firm they were partners, at Pukeraii in February last! Inspe'otor.Moore withdrew the information, and the accused were committed : for trial at the Supreme Court on the finding of the Coroner's jury, which wasto the effect that the accused fired the premises.' The proceedings arose.out of recriminations between the partners at the meetings in bankruptcy. Craig and MePhail both stated that McKenzie suggested the fire as.the simplest way of solving their financial, troubles, the latter also averring that McKenzie offered him consideration to fire the store. MePhail said he refused to entertain the proposal, but at the inquest the jury were of opinion that he had a hand in the alleged crime,
Supposed Suicide,
Auckland, Thursday
A supposed case of suicide occurred at the Raglan Hotel yesterday. A man named Grove was recently dismissed from his employment for drunkenness, and he was found in bed rigid, suffering great pain, and died shortly afterwards, A phhl, containing strychnine, was found in the room.
