We have only two good representative halves in the Wairarapa, and they are Joe Perry and Bamnber. For wings, Polling and Bryce' are undoubtedly. tLe pick of the district under' the oircuinstances, but a Wairarapa team is not perfect, without H. Homislow as one of the whi!»men, It is to be hoped that an effort will be made to'induce biin to don the green against the English team, for. he is generally admitted to be the best we have hi the district. The forwards are as good as we have got. They average about twelve stone, and considering their weight are a Jast lot. If they play with their usual confidence, their opponents will be kept very.busy from the kick-off. on Saturday. The backs as a! combination are not so. strong as the. forwards, but the team as a whole is about the strongest that has ever left the Wairarapa, and- Mr Whatman is to.be complimented on .his "selection/ . The following is the individual criticism of the team:— /,
■Ussheb—(full-back)—Good: collar, stops rushes well; only a fair kiok. Should not attempt to run so much. E. Udy (three-quarter) Fine runner, fends well, but does not lack with judgment. /Npt.playirig/up to his'oldfom,/'/:/ 1 /;.;' r ;//'/ G. H. Smith—Good collar; /runs and dodges well; clever pot. Has a gpod kno)yledge.of the game./ v .'v;.• H. Snodgkass—Dodgy.runner, and fair, kick.'/ Should^,take This kiok, instead of attempting to run so much, Eather.aweakthree-quarter,- ; ''■■'- J, PBnnY—Very smart half; runs;'' collars, and punts splendidly. ;. J. Baujiber—Another clever half; splendid collar; punts and .stops rushes well.-
F: Pelhng (Wing)— Fine wing, fast and always in form, therefore always on tlie ball, plays hard from start to fijiisb,
Bbyou (Wing)— Strong and fast, picks up too much, should dribble ami pass more. 6., Welch—Splendid forward very hard worker, good man in all departments of the game, ■...'.,.. . W. E.-Weigh—Very good man on the touchline, inclined to shirk the scrum a good deal, good dribbler and fast. ■ ' : : ■'
C._ Bannister— An honest hardworking forward, very strong. W.Day-A strong hard-working forward,-rather slow.
H. Mitchell—Fine dashing forward/very dangerous near the line, best forward in the team.
' W. Thomas—A.verygoodallroiind man, fast and hard 'wo)kor,- dribbles well. . ; -'.-,-. -'-,-'; : : -'":''; ; ./;^:V
• 0. Eeid-4 hard -.working, {ho! not brilliant-forward, a good stayer and strong,
The following players will represent Wellington in the match agaiust Wairarapa on . Saturday next , Full-back Sim; tbreequarters— Fairbrother, Fraser, and Thompson; halves-^-Moorhouse, Eoberts; Forwards— Muir and Smith (wings), King Malcolm, Moqre, Storey, Cockroft, Reich and Giuders.
