The amendments inado in Cummittee in the Native Lauds Bill wore apreed to, and tho Bill was read a third time and passed.. After a lengthy discussion, the motion for tho commital of the District Railways Purchasing Act Amendment Bill was agreed to. Clause 4 was amended to allow reasonable costs to objectors and their witnesses. . A new clause to enable any stop for collection of rates which had hitherto boen neglected to bo yet taken, even though the two years limitation, fixed in the Eating Act, 1882, may have elapsed, met with strong opposition. Tho clauso was finally amended to enable the Government to collect not more than two yoars arrears, Mr Hislop moved a new clauso exemp. tin? anyone from .the oporation of the act wlio docs not pay £2los in ordinary rates. A scene botween tho Chairman and Mr Moss ensued.
Mr Stewart moved to amend tho clause so that it should apply to rates now in arrears. Carried by 20 to 17.
Mr Rhodes moved a further amendment extending the operation of tho clause to rates which may hereafter becomo payable. Lost by 20 to 17. After furthor discussion progress was reported, and the House rose at 3.50 a.m.
