London, 7tli August, The Local Government Bill lias passed through Committee into the House of Lords.
' In reply to Dr Tanner, member for Mid-Cork, Sir James Ferguson said the Colonial Office had received no protest from the Victorian Government concerning the proposal to 'emigrate paupers to the colonies. In the House of Commons Sir James Ferguson, in reply to a question said there was no hope that the French Government would agree to allow the Eev Mr Jones to return to the New Hebrides from which he was expelled 6ome time ago. Sir James said further, that nothing had been proved affected the rev. gontleman's character, and he believed ho had been conducting a Christian and Meritorious work.
