HORRIBLE MURDER.
' A horrible and brutal crime was perpetrated by Liuglais in tho middle of the day in london in May last. ■ AnOld lady, Mrs Wright, was alone .n a house in CanonburyTerrace, wlien about half-past two in tbe afternoon two uien were observed to knock at the door. They wero admitted by Mrs Wright, or rather the door wa3 opened and tlicy entered. Screams were heard, and a French lady went and knocked at the door. She was ii"out to send fur tlin police when the uo men camo out of the house in a quiet and business-like way, Madame Chefdoville challenged them, when tlioy ran oil', one of them ftk dropping his bag, Madaiuo Chetilc- ' ville secured the Ung and tendered it to a policeman, but that sapient officer ' declined to take the bag and the men ■7 Wero escaping while tbe '■ active and intelligent" one was declining to puzzle himself with Madauio ChoMeville'a imperfect English, At last a passer-by succeeded in interpreting something of the story to tho policeman, when ho ontcred the house and found the unfortunate old lady sitting behind tho door bearing marks of strangulation and a blow on tho temple —and dead, from sheer gratuitous brutality and murderous cruelty, as it appears, the rufliaus had killed her, lor she could certainly have oll'ered very little resistance to their attempts to rob tho house. It is greatly to be hoped that tbe police will bring these wretches to justice, and that ut satisfactory hanging may punish them for their crime, and act as a solutary kson to others of their disposition who are left behind.
