Mr Renall's Water Race.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt seems very desirable that ■" : the facts relating to Mr Renall's water soheme be placed befoio the ratepayer. The editor of tho Star set out to do this yesterday in an article, which apparently hide the facts which are as follows. Mr lieiiall has good cause jto fear tlie supply of water to his mill ' is First because the < river has'taken, such acouiseasto j ' threaten to sweep away the dam, and' 1 » render necessary a laige expenditure to re : erectand maiutamit, andsecondly - •because' those through whose land the water. runs threaten to st£ the flow from the Waipoua Anomnaiy man would be content these difficulties by - sion to bring the itatei through tho streets under the direction of the Bor ough Council, and would manfully face the other himself, ,'pt so Mr i Renall. Aided by his friend Mr Hogg he is scheming to, shift the burden on < to the ratepayers, and seeks to build , up the dam with their monoy. The ratepayers are not aware of this part " of the scheme because it lias been carefully kept in the background ; the Councillors are aware of it though, and they refuse to sanction the scheme until they are given a legal right to 1 the water lead through Mr Renall's land, and are assured that none of tho ratepayers money is to be spent in' improving Mr Renall's property. Let each ratepayer ask himself how he would like to see £4OO or £SOO of the rates spent in the bed of the Waipoua to build up a dam to furnish water to Mr Renall's mill. This expenditure • must be made in a very short time, either by Mr Renall or the rafiyers, ' and if those who have no roaßj tlio Borough, those who have to wade, ankle deep in mud to their homes, those who find it difficult to ' pay - rates at all these hard times do not wish to see their money thus' spent, they must support the Councillors, who are striving Lard to protect thorn-from this infamous scheme. z lain&c,, > Ratepayer,
