WRECK OF THE HAWEA.
WiifiMNUTON, Tuesday. The Union Company have received the following telegram this morning from New Plymouth:—The Hawea struck on a rock coming in this morning, and is now full of water. The passengers are all landed but see no chance of getting the ship off. The Hawea is valued at £IB,OOO, and is insured for £SOOO, £3OOO in Colonial offices and £2OOO in Home offices.
The Takapuna will probably take up the running. The Manager here has made arrangements to have the passengers brought on by train, The Secretary of the Post Office, Wellington, has received a telegram from Taranaki, stating that the Hawea struck on a rock while entering the harbor this morning, by keeping too far north. She now lies on her beam ends full of water. The mails were landed all dry.
