Alfredton Licensing Committee.

The annual meeting was held at the Road Board office, Eketaliuiui, on the !)tli inst. Present, Messrs A. Anderson (chairman), F. von Eeden, H. de Clifton, B. Syversen, and G. Buckley. New publicans' licenses were granted to Mr C. E. Beckuian for a house at Eketaliuna to be called the Universal Hotel; to Mr M. Kelliher for the building known as the Working Men's Club at Eketaliuna, to be known as the Club Hotel; to Mr D. Crewe for a house at Palliate to be called the Club Hotel. A new accommodation license was granted to Mr Sinclair McKay George for a house at Alfredtoil, Three other applications were adjourned. The committee decided not to renew Mr Tuck's license unless lie would engage to close his billiard room and skating rink at ten o'clock as part of his licensed premises. He was allowed fourteen days to consider the matter. The business of the meeting excited great interest and a large number of persons were present. Mr Toswell, solicitor, of Pahiatua, appeared for Messrs Deckman, Kelliher, Anderson, Crewe, and George. The meeting is adjourned to '23 rd inst.
