Senior Cup, The second heat for tlio senior cup of the Wairarapa , Rugby Union was played on Saturday afternoon between the first fifteens of the Musterton and Carterton Clubs on the ground of the latter, and after a keenly contested game resulted in a draw, each side scoring three points. The Musterton team was rather n weak one, being made up >vith live emergencies, while the local men had the strongest fifteen they havoyet putfb the field. Messrs Erskine and Nix umpired, and Mr S. Nicholls, of tho Poueke Club acted as referee. Carterton won the toss and Masterton had to play uphill and with tho sun glaring straight in their eyes Jv tho whole of tho first spell, <vhich was * evenly contested and ended without any score being mado, Shortly after the second spell commenced Bamber got a mark inside the N Masterton twenty-live, from which he kicked a goal. This seemed to enliven the visitors and they forced their opponents down several times in quick succession. C. Perry got over the Artcrton line, but had the bull knocked Hut of his arms before he could touch down. Three Masterton men dribbled the leather over the line, but somehow lost command without scoring. Smith and Pellinst also got through, but the former was called tack and tho latter's attempt to score was given as a forcedown. A few minutes before time was called, Smith, although surrounded by the Carterton men, potted a splendid goal and was loudly cheered. This made the scoring even and the game
ended in a draw. The fonvatds of
both teams played a hard game, the / local men having rather the best of it in the packed scrum, but were beaten directly the ball sot loose. Some nice passing was done by die backs, and the game all through was a very good one. Great complaints were made against Bamber's hacking, and if lie persists in this style of play his opponents will be retaliating with interest. . McCarthy, of the Bed Stars, played for Carterton, and the Mastertou skipper entered a Mnial protest as a breach of rule 3 m the Union Cup rules, which reads, ''That no player shall play for more than one Club in any annual contest," so that the Carterton men are likely to have the match given against them, J union Cur,
