It has been decided to use electricity in carrying out sentences of death, instead of the old style of hanging. An hotel at Rockdalo, Texas, has been destroyed by fire, and eleven persons were burnt to death. Vienna, Juno 6. Obituary—The Earl of Seafield, Berlin, June 5, The political crisis has been satisfactorily settled by a compromise. London, June 6. Mr Stead, Editor of the Pall Mall Gazette, has had a private interview with the Czar, during which they diseussed the European situation. The result of their conversation has not yet been disclosed. London, June 6.
A public meeting was held to-day, to consider the defences of the city. It was decided to petition the Government to place the security of the country beyond a doubt. Admiral Lord Alcester endorsed the views of Admiral Hornby.
The city defence meeting was attended by an immense crowd. It was resolved, that in the present state of the national defences there was reason for grave anxiety.
