CORRESPONDENCE.
A Plea for the County R^er.
[To the Editor,]
Sir,—ln your issue of the 9th insfc., we notice that a petition was presented to the County Council, by some of the Kopuaranga people asking for the abolition of the ranger, who theysay, is harassing the residents. Now, sir, we, as settles, think it our duty to protect the Ranger, as we consider that lie is wanted on the road. No doubt, it is very hard for some of. the settlers who have had the run of the road for many years, to be confined to their own land. If these settlers studied the road a little, and would try to ks&i their stock off if possible, they wow have a better road to travel on. There is 110 doubt in our minds that there was a great amount of harm done to the road last winter through stock running thereon, andboware we going to prevent this, without a ranger ? We, however, do consider that the charges at' the pound are ruinous. A, and.H, ViliA A. McLauchla™ C. JKowe, H.Eagle,
