Eketahuna Road Board.

The annual meeting of ratepayers was held on Saturday, the sth inst., at 11 o'clook in the forenoon. A limited number of ratepayers wero present, and Mr T Bayliss presided. The balance sheet was read and adopted. It showed a credit balance of £298 6s 2d. The annual meeting of the Board was held at noon, present: Messrs A. Anderson, M, Nilson, 0. E. Beckman, and S. Bacon. Mr T, Bayliss, tho retiring Chairman, and who has resigned his seat on the Board, occupied the Chair at the opening of the meeting. After a few explanations in connection with the business of the Board, he acknowledged the courtesy shown him by its members during the two years he had presided over their meetings, and hoped a similar kindness would be . extended to his successor in office. He then called on the meeting to choose a Chairman for the ensuing year, when Mr A. Anderson was unanimously elected. On taking the Chair, Mr Anderson in a few appropriate remarks, expressed his hope that the same good feeling which hail prevailed m the past would continue. He then moved a vote ot thanks to the retiring Chair man which was carried unnnimously. Correspondence inwards was then read From with resolution re the taking over of main roads by Road Board. From ■ Messrs Janet, Campbell, Moorcock, Piatt, Franklin and Svkes requesting the Board to fell the bush on the road line adjoining their sections. From Clerk Masterton Road Board, advising in the matter ot the election. From Clerk Alfredton Road Board, re taking over main roads. From Secretary of Parkville Special Settlement informing that a committee consisting of Messrs BacOn, Fogden, Bright, Jonsbergand Tyler had been appointed to prepare a scheme for expenditure of accrued thirds. From Commissioner of Crown Lands, agreeing to proposals for the expenditure of accrued thirds on a bridge on Mangaone Valley road. From same with schedule of lands sold during past year. From County engineer with plan for suspension bridge over Makakahi River. Tho Works Committee reported that the suspension bridge contract had been let to Mr C. E, Daniel for £43 10s, and the platform bridge on the Mangaone Valley road to Mr J. McDonald for £44. Resolved that Messrs Janet and others be informed the Board would attend to the felling of the bush requested, so soon as they are in receipt of the thirds accruing from the adjoining sections. That Mr Anderson pass the works on Makakahi Road South when completed. That Mr M. Nilson have fallen trees removed from the Mangaone Valley Road and inspect the sill of the bridge in York's contract prior to filling in, also that he see to the laying off of bushfelling on Central Mangaone Road East. That the Clerk prepare a list of defaulting ratepayers to lay before the next meeting of the Board. Mr Bacon brought before the Board a provisional scheme for felling most of the road lines in the Parkville Settlement and clearing a track on the same. He also suggested an alternativescheme which he believed was favored by a majority of the members of the Association, viz,, to obtain a loan under the Local Bodies Loans Act, the interest to be paid with accrued thirds. After a lengthy conversation, it was decided that the Clerk make enquiries and report to the next meeting of the Board. The Chairman called attention to the boundary proposed for the Pahiatua' County taking a large slice from the Eketahuna Road District at a line most disadvantageous to tho District in question, It was decided by all means to oppose the Bill in its present shape, The Board expressed themselves in favor of a Bush County, taking in Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Alfredton, and Mauriceville Road Districts, Messrs Bacon and Beckman were appointed to sign cheques. A vote of thanks to the Clerk was unanimously passed for his services during the year. The meeting then adjourned.

Alfredton Road Board, A muting of the above Board was held on Tuesday, the Ist inst. Present—Messrs Ketbell, Smith, Dunn, and Benton. Mr Kebbell was unanimously elected Chairman for the ensuing year. The Returning Officer reported that John Smith and William Cross have been returned as members of the Board unopposed, leaving one vacancy still to fill in the Tiraumea subdivision. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Inwards correspondence was read as follows: From the County Council, with statement of account against the Board. Resolved to request the Council to reply to the Board's memo, of the fltli August, 188G, regarding the same matter, and to state that the account would have been paid long ere now had the information asked for been given. Prom the same, stating that it has bfien decided not to hand over the maintenance of/ main roads to Road Boards. From the Treasury, re the auditing of local bodies' accounts, Resolved to authorise Mr Dunn to have some work done in clearing the Tawataia creek by day labor instead of by tender, as previously arranged, and to authorise Mr Smith to employ a man oil the Tiraumea district road. Payments amounting to 114 10s Gd were passed. Messrs Benton and Dunn were appointed to sigii cheques, and the next meeting was fixed for the first Tuesday in July.

The statutory annual meeting of ratepayers in the Alfredton Road District, was held on the Ist instant, Mr Kebbell (Chairman of the Board), presiding, A resolution was proposed and unanimously carried that the action of the Board for the past year be approved, The Chairman briefly thanked the meeting for the expression of Confidence in the Board. The meeting then adjourned.
