Upper Taueru Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Bideford on Monday, 7th May. Present—Messrs Hood (chairman), Macßae, lXutllorfurd, Milk', and Perry. Letters were read as imder— From County Clerk, enclosing copy of Council's resolution re maintenance of main roads by Road Boards. Gardiner Is Co., asking for
extension of timo to complete their contract. Granted.. County Engineer, giving statement of amounts due to Gardiner and Co. on their contract.—Resolved that 1233 19s 2d bo ■ paid tliem. County Engineer, stating k, that McKay's contract was completed <&. by him, and claiming £6 10s for the work; also £3 lis Gd for inspection of the contract since the date on which it should have been completed. The Engineer's account of oxpenses since April, 1887, was presented. It was resolved that the whole Board bo converted into a Works and Finance Committee, their meetings to take place three days before the ordinary roeoting every month. On the motion of Mr Miller, seconded by Mr Rutherfurd, it was resolved that the Engineer's account be referred back to the County Clerk, asking him to separ- :: ate the items chargeable to the £BOO loan, and desiring him to give the point at which both the Waimiiomapu and Wairere roads commence, and to explain what the term ' proportionate expenses' means. That the amount of £6 10s bo paid to the Engineer, and that 13 Us Gd, chargeable for inspection, be deducted
from any sura due to McKay, That the sum of £5 be paid to Mr Perry, # being the balanco of a sura of £lO due to hira by the Board. That the sum of £5 be paid Mr Pcrston for tlio same cause, Ordered that the sum of 12s be paid Mr McGovern for work on Wingate's line, That tenders be called for the extension of the formation from the end of No. 3 Gardiner's contract, Waircre road. That applications he invited for the office of permanent roadman. That a committee, consisting of Messrs Hood, Miller, Rutlurfurd, and Macßae be appointed to deal with tlio applications, with power to appoint. Mr Miller applied ■f. for leave to spend the remainder of his , 114 grant, Acceded to, Proposed by Mr Ilntherfurd, seconded by Mr Miller, that the Chairman be given power to attend to any slips that may occur on the new road, Carried, Mr McGovern applied for the sum of £l6 to open up a road into the Mungarae. Granted. Ordered ; that tho Clerk be instructed to purfSchase a proper printed form of " Touchers,
