The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 1888. The Bank Dividend.
Fob some weeks past the leading question in financial circles lias been, " Will the Bank of New Zealand pay a dividend ?" It was felt that during the past six months it must have earned one, provided it had faced all its losses fairly and squarely at the last half-yearly meeting. Many contended that it had not owned up to them sufficiently to resume its mission as a dividend paying concern. The croakers, however, are now silenced! The Bank lias declared a dividend, it has tinned the comer, and during the next six months the values of its shares are likely to rise as steadily as they have fallen during the similar period which has just terminated. This is good news for the colony, because its commercial interests are, very intimately linked with the good or bad fortunes of this institution. The bank has no longer a weak side which ill-natured detractors may attack. It is strong enough to challenge criticism and it will be seen by our report in another column that it has put out its strength.
