Profits of the Ballet.
A London paper says:—At the half-yearly meeting of the Alliambra Company Limited, the report whicli ivas laid befoie the shareholders stated that the gross receipts had been f43,307,0r £13,500 over the outgoings. £3OOO was caraied to the reserve fund, a dividend of 8 per cent, declared for the half year, and a bonus of £1 per share; the balance was carried forward to the next account. The Chairman, - in moving the adoption of the report A and accounts, said that the average divi(lends of the past year, were 41 per cent, as against 40 per cent in 1885, a«tliis showed real progress. The lastlittle bit of the sentence is delightful too. No wonder that the Directors as they say in their report, can afford " to decorate the theatre to keep pace with the growing taste of the people for luxury." The ballet pays: that is the long and the short of it. Also, it would be very nice to be a shareholder in the Alliambra.
