FOOTBALL.

MASTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB,

thirty members of the Masterton Football Club turned out to the Club's ground in Worksop road on Saturday afternoon. A match had been arranged to take place between the Town and Country members, but, owinaJp the country team not appearing inefficient force, the match did not take place. Sides were therefore picked by Messrs Whatman and Cox ; and after a hard-fought game, resulted iu a win for the latter's team by three goals to one, Among the backs may be mentioned for their good play Smith and H. Perry: while among the forwards "Whatman, Cox, and W. Welch showed excellent form.

RED STAR FOOTBALL CLUB.

The Red Star Club mustered in full force 011 their ground, when twelve of the first fifteen played about twenty of the other members of the Club, The game resulted in a win for the latter, after a stubbornly resisted game, Jiy two goals and a try to nil. The Puventy proved too strong in the scrimmage for their opponents, and their fast forward play completely smothered the opposing backs, The tries were obtained by McKenzie, T. Bannister, and Darley. For the wind's, Harry Welch, J. and 0. McKenzie played extremely well; while D'Arcy and Watson were the only backs who showed anything like form for the losers, and Iggnlden and Wilsone in the forwards played their usual hard game, Among the new members of the Club who were present on Saturday may be mentioned Holford, J. McKenzie, J. Morris, W. and F. Grantham, J. and 0. Percy, Harry Welch, and others. The members are requested to roll up ,in force at 7.150 on Wednesday evening next, at the Post Office corner, for a run. It is desired that they should don their football costume, to avoid unnecessary weight,

Regarding a visit of the English team, Mr Jas. Lilly white has just written to the Secretary of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union, as under: " Christclmrch, 19th April. Dear Sir.—We shall reach Wellington if all goes well, on the morning of lltli May. The Railway Department debars the chance of our visiting upcoi(|y districts by not granting free passes, or a big concession on the New Zealand lines."
