Over a hundred persons were killed, and there are a thousand injured persons in the hospitals, Capetown, April 16, Owing to the threatening attitude oftheDamara tribes in South-Wes-tern Africa a body of British troops has been dispatched to Walvisch Bay for the protection of Europeans residing there.
London, April 17. The warship Caroline lias arrived from Honolulu. She reports planting the British flag on Fawn, Christmas, and Penrylm Islands, recently annexed by Great Britain. Mr Gladstone, addressing a meeting at Marylebone, said that he was satisfied with the present political situation in England, as the Tories were carrying out the principles set forth by the Liberal Party. A sugar refinery at Barnes, S. W. has been destroyed by fire, and it is estimated that the damage exceeds 165,000.
