Bishop Cowie has resolved to remain some time in England j at any rate, a year or so. He will, however, eventually return to New Zealand, reports to the contrary notwithstanding. The Clutliß .River is now becoming a famous fishing place. Some very heavy bags have been taken. For two afternoons one fisher took 10 (441b) and 8 (401b) fish, Another secured six fish in one day, weighing ■JOIb. Perch are also very plentiful in this Otago stream. The Lyttelton Times says: 'Tn searching through the Turf jßecord for last season for the purposo of answering a question by a correspondent, we find the following number of wins credited to our principal jockeys:—tVliito 46, Derrett 42, Sharp 32, Huxtable 21; Wood 20, Clifford 19, J.Cotton, 17, G.Williams 16, T.Lyford 15, Stratford 14, Dodd 12, Vailo 12, Brown 11, Cockrane 10, These figures are probably only approximately correct, as the names of riders are omitted from many of the sports.
