Its receipts and expenditure.
The Salvation Army held a wellattended and successful tea raeetin» in the Masterton Barracks last evening, there being quite one hundred and seventy persons present. There was a plentiful supply of everything that was good and eatable on the tables, and what was very gratifying was the fact that all tho edibles were the free contribution of the ladies of the congregation and of kind friends generally, Captain Buckingham, assisted, by
Lieutenant Ellis conducted affairs, and, at the very enthusiastic ■ public ii meeting which was held after the tea, ] the following statement showing the
jj operations of the Mastevton' corps, 11 from a financial standpoint, was read 1 by the former. The return is for a ; J quarter only, and is for the period j ending 31sfc March, 1888, ? j BALANCE SHEET, | Receipts Sunday collections £l2 13s sd; week night do £8 3s j Cartridge £5 14s 9d j profit on teas £l3 lOd ; outpost, collections £2 9s sd. Total £42 Is sd. Expenditureßy Officers' allowance £lB 19s 2d; Kont £7; Kerosene £1 5a od; printing £2; divisional fund £110s; outpost, expenses £2 2s 3d; debt to Thos, (Jollier £3; band account £5 j sundry expenses 16s 4d j cash in hand 8s 3d, Total £42 Is sd, Liabilitiesßent owing at end of quarter, £3 10s, By the above it will be seen that the Captain and the Lieutenant, who both devote their whole time to the army's work, have only been paid at the rate of 15s each per week, thelooal funds not allowing them to receive the full amount of 27s provided by the regulation scale of pay, When it is mentioned that these zealous officers, not only give their services, but with the exception of being allowed a house, have to keep themselves out of the sum named above, it will be recognised that unless they were devoted to their calling, they would never, as a speculation, join the Army,
